UAE Under-17s in peak form as they demolish Singapore

The UAE under-17 side continued their World Cup preparations with an emphatic 4-0 win over Singapore in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday night.

The young Emiratis dominated the game throughout and were given star performances from two-goal hero Zayed Al Amri and Faisal Al Khoury, who was also on the scoresheet.

Mohammad Al Akbari was the UAE’s other goal scorer as they picked up their first win of their Kuala Lumpur training camp.

The UAE host the FIFA Under-17 World Cup from October 17 until November 8 and have been on international training camps for two months, preparing for the tougher battles that lie ahead.

The Whites looked strong in their 4-0 triumph, taking the lead through Al Akbari after half an hour. While the UAE dominated proceedings, they had to wait until halfway through the second half to make it count.

But when they did, the goals came in an avalanche. Al Amri netted twice – from the penalty spot in the 69th minute and again on 76 minutes before Al Khoury polished off the rout with a goal three minutes from time.

The Whites have enjoyed a successful preparation period so far this summer. The team recently finished a camp in Istanbul where they played against the Besiktas under-17 team and thrashed them 5-1 before taking on Slovakia’s under-17 side – who are ranked fourth in Europe – and winning 3-1 with goals from Al Amri and Khaled Khalfan.

The UAE have a host of forthcoming matches, taking on Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand over the coming fortnight as well as facing off against an unnamed Malaysian club side.

On August 31, the UAE team will return home before embarking on a final camp ahead of their World Cup campaign.
