Weidenfeller dreams of World Cup berth

Borussia Dortmund’s Roman Weidenfeller has revealed that he would jump at the opportunity to be Germany’s third-choice goalkeeper at World Cup 2014.

The 33-year-old has never before been capped at senior level by his country but he has been lifted by compliments he recently received from die Mannschaft boss Joachim Low, who said he has been monitoring the veteran’s form.

“I am very happy with the recognition of the national team coach,” Weidenfeller told Kicker.

“If the German Football Association needs my help, I would be happy to help. I would be ready at any time.

“I would, of course, gladly go as number three [goalkeeper] for the World Cup next year.”

Weidenfeller, who has been at Signal Iduna Park for over a decade, has only previously been capped at Under-21s level by his country.
